Technician - Mobility Equipment Fabrication and Repair

  • $63,496 - $79,073 per annum + super + salary packaging

As a technician, you will be responsible for the fabrication of custom seating systems for mobility equipment, as well as the repair of mobility equipment including manual and powered wheelchairs, and other mobility devices. 

In this role you will play a key part in the Ability TECH team, collaborating with the Industrial Designer, Mechatronics Engineer, Upholsterers, Clinical Advisor, and the Ability WA Therapy Team.

Your main responsibility will be fabricating and repairing postural seating systems and mobility equipment for people with disabilities. 

We are looking for a practical, hands-on technician to help build, repair and service equipment like wheelchairs, shower/commode chairs, and all mobility bases, allowing individuals to live their best lives.

This is a great opportunity for a tradesperson looking for rewarding end-to-end project.

Full time permanent position based at our Malaga Hub.

What you will be doing:

  • Fabricating and modifying custom equipment to meet customer needs.
  • Repairing and maintaining mobility devices.
  • Interacting with customer, therapists, technicians, and upholsterers in a clinical setting.
  • Safely operating workshop tools and machinery.
  • Troubleshooting mechanical issues, and providing practical solutions.

Requirements:

  • Full Australian Working Rights
  • Current Australian Driver's Licence
  • Engineering Tradesperson Level 1, or higher
  • National Police Clearance (within the last 6 months)
  • NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (or willing to obtain)
  • NDIS Workers Orientation Module (or willing to obtain)
  • Working with Children Check (or willing to obtain)
  • Current First & CPR Certificate
  • COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate

Desirable

  • Experience in fabrication using materials including, plastics, wood, metals, and foams.
  • Experience in light engineering fabrication.
  • Skilled in using the following standards of workshop equipment: Table/Panel Saw, Drill Press, Router, Lathe, Milling Machine, TIG welding, and standard hand tools.
  • Knowledge of equipment needs of people with disabilities.
