Technician (Tradesperson)

About the position

The Technician (bio-engineering) plays a key role as part of the Ability TECH team, working alongside the Industrial Designer, Mechatronics Engineer, Upholsterers and Clinical Adviser, as well as the Ability WA Therapy team, to fabricate and repair postural seating systems and equipment for people with disabilities.

This is a great opportunity for a tradesperson looking for rewarding end-to-end project work.

Full time permanent position based at our Malaga Hub.

As a Technician, you will:

  • Provide routine technical services to customers attending Ability TECH, relating to wheelchairs, postural seating systems and other equipment for postural support and function.
  • Manufacture, fabricate and assembly of positioning equipment and inserts as prescribed by therapist
  • The manufacture of seating and wheelchair accessories and components using approved materials (metals, plastics, wood) and techniques.
  • Interacting with customers, therapists, technicians, upholsters and tradespeople in a clinical setting.

About You

What we’ll need to help kick-start your journey with us:

  • Engineering Tradesperson level 1 or higher
  • Ability to work well in a team, and good communication skills.
  • Current Working with Children Check, National Police Clearance no older than 6 months, Current Driver’s Licence, NDIS Workers Orientation Module, NDIS Worker Screening check and COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate, Current First Aid Certificate

DESIRABLE

  • Experience in fabrication using any of these materials; plastics, wood, metals and foams
  • Experience in light engineering fabrication
  • Skilled in using the following standard workshop equipment; table / panel saw, drill press, router, lathe, milling machine, TIG welding and standard hand tools
  • Knowledge of equipment needs of people with disabilities
